Laser-Perfect Vvision Possible With LASIK (Laser In-Situ Keratomileusis) Surgery.
GAYLORD - Tammy Cosby, age 29, had been wearing glasses or contact lenses since she was 13-years-old. “I couldn't read the big ‘E' on the eye chart,” laughed an eyeglasses-less and contact lens-less Cosby after her vision was corrected to better than 20/20 through a procedure called LASIK (laser in-situ keratomileusis) surgery.
The laser vision procedure, performed by Dr. Jeffrey Chaulk at his Gaylord Alpine Eye Care office, corrected Cosby's vision to 20/10, an improvement she was able to see the very next day.
“It was simple and easy and I would recommend it to anyone,” Cosby said of the 15 minute out-patient surgery performed by Chaulk.
Chaulk, who has been working in northern Michigan since 1988, with offices also in Grayling and Cheboygan, said he has used the vision correction technique for the past 10-12 years and estimates 1,000 of his patients have undergone the LASIK procedure.
According to Chaulk, LASIK corrects the degree of refractive error for individuals who are either nearsighted, farsighted or have astigmatism. A laser is used to change the curvature of the cornea and most patients who have undergone the surgery recover quickly, as did Cosby.
