LASIK Hits 10-year Mark

The past 10 years have seen advancements in nearly every technological field, including medicinal sciences. One of those advancements was the start of LASIK eye surgery, which has seen an increasing number of successful patients in recent years, according to local optometrists.

Nearly 2 million people have LASIK surgery each year. Despite the high costs associated with the surgery, both doctors and patients said it's worth it.

Nick Nicosia's first words after opening his eyes Thursday couldn't be printed, but the surprise at how sharp his vision had become was obvious.
"That's amazing ... wow," he said with a smile. "That's wild."

LASIK surgery isn't a new procedure, nor is it unpopular, said doctors Leon LaHaye and Paul Azar, both of whom have performed thousands of procedures during the past decade.
