Irish Research Claims Lasik is Safe

Irish eye researchers are claiming an excellent safety profile for controversial LASIK surgery in a major new five-year follow-up study which has just been published in the British Journal of Ophthalmology....

Overall, 96 per cent of patients reported that they would have the surgery again, they said. The procedure still attracts controversy despite 10 years of experience, the researchers reported....

The patients had surgery between 1998 and 1999 for all levels of myopia. They said LASIK “offers predictable results in terms of refractive and visual outcome with mild regression in refraction over time”.
