Laser Eye Surgeon Glenn Kawesch Has Served His Federal Prison Term For Tax Evasion And Is Practicing Again

La Jolla eye surgeon Glenn Kawesch has served his federal prison term for tax evasion and is practicing again after winning a lengthy court battle to regain his medical license.

The California Medical Board restored Kawesch's license after a Sacramento Superior Court judge ruled that the board had improperly revoked it last year.

Judge Judy Hersher decided the board was wrong in overruling an administrative law judge who found no merit to claims Kawesch had mistreated patients and that the board had no reason to punish him after he admitted cheating on his taxes.

Kawesch's ads touting laser eye surgery were once a mainstay on San Diego airwaves but ceased when his license was revoked in June 2004. Kawesch has performed more than 31,000 eye surgeries on more than 20,000 patients since 1996.

Now he's rebuilding his practice, using singer Jessica Simpson and many of the other celebrity testimonials he touted before he got in trouble with the law.
