Kansas City Laser Eye Surgery

A Leawood eye doctor has been chosen to participate in a clinical study of new laser surgery technology being introduced in the United States. Dr. John Doane's Discover Vision Center office in Leawood is one of five U.S. sites selected for study of Carl Zeiss Meditec's MEL 80 Excimer Laser.

"The MEL 80 is very fast and extremely precise," Doane said in a written release. "With this newest laser, we are able to make the finest corrections without losing the benefit of a smooth surface. And we perform the procedure without having to dilate the eye."

Patients benefit from laser's use, Doane said, because it improves their vision more than other procedures, and patients recover vision quicker.

"This laser is good news for many farsighted patients, who typically are not good candidates for laser treatments," Doane said.

Beginning in January, Doane will start using the MEL 80 on farsighted patients living in the Kansas City area.
