Study: Therapy Improves "Lazy Eye" In Adults

LOS ANGELES, CA, United States (UPI) -- Scientists at the University of Southern California and at three Chinese universities have found amblyopia, or lazy eye, can be successfully treated.

A lazy eye in children appears normal, but doesn`t see properly, even with corrective lenses. If untreated, the eye will not develop fully, resulting in what was believed to be permanent vision loss.

The researchers trained the subjects in detection of a small 'gabor,' a set of three contrasting dark and light ovals that neurophysiologists have identified as a basic unit of visual perception.
